Ever felt like you are chasing tasks that seem to spin faster than you can catch them? or found yourself daydreaming about possessing a superpower for time control?
If your answer is "yes", you are not alone. In my recent days filled with midterms, the relentless pursuit of time became all too real. Each second seemed to slip through my fingers, and let's be honest, time has a way of sprinting when we're least expecting it. I vividly recall glancing at the clock at 7:50, only to witness a blink-worthy transformation that transported me to 9:00 within what felt like mere seconds.
We all experience this but why? For me, I think the biggest reason for this is the word "distraction" - a cunning thief of time. Consider the time when your best friend sent you a funny meme sparking a spirited conversation that unfolds like a captivating storyline. However, as the banter and laughter arose, a glance at the clock revealed that time had vanished.
Now let me share my experience with you that will help in managing time!
It all started with prioritizing tasks which emerged as my guiding compass through the labyrinth of my daily tasks. I became aware that not all tasks are created equally, prompting an approach to ensure that the most important task takes the highest stage.
A lot of people out there praise multitasking as a productivity approach but is multitasking truly a virtue, or is it, as I see it, a comedy of errors? Let's say you reply to emails while cooking the meal. It is seen as a win-lose or lose-lose approach which means that you might excel in doing one task but not doing the other or you might end up failing both tasks.
Another concept that reshaped my time management skills is the power to say "no" which is the process of declining projects that didn't align with my priorities. In the past, I was fearful of missing opportunities so I always accept every opportunity. I am not saying to not take opportunities but choose the opportunity that you think will be beneficial and worth it because many opportunities can lead to overcommitment.
Ever heard of a digital dilemma? I am sure we all experienced that at some point. Let me clarify more, have you ever opened your best movie while you have an exam the next day? or scroll down through Instagram videos? yes? This is what we call a "digital dilemma". Here is what I do to overcome this issue and it is by following the Pomodoro technique where you can specify how much time you will spend studying and at what time you will have a break.
